European Marine Observation Data and Network (EMODNET) - building a European marine data infrastructure

The Integrated European Maritime Policy aims to provide a coherent framework, which exploits synergies between different policy areas of the sea and resolves potential conflicts.

In its Action Plan, presented on 10 October 2007, the European Commission enumerates a set of actions to be taken as a first step towards the implementation of the new policy.

One of these actions is the public Consultation on EMODNET – building a European marine data infrastructure. From April to June 2009, the Commission opened the consultation and received 300 replies.
