NEA 2 joins Surfrider Cleanups 2010
Extensive clean-up of beaches and river banks on the 19, 20 and 21 March in the Atlantic Area
The Intercéltica-Associação Cultural, Desportiva e Turística, responsible for the environmental coordination of project NEA 2, is organizing in partnership with the Surfrider Foundation Europe, ane xtensive clean-up of coasts and river banks on the 19, 20 and 21 of March, in the Atlantic Area.
This great eco-citizen weekend of global scale has, among others, the participation of partners from six Atlantic regions, namely AD ELO (Center of Portugal), Valimar (North of Portugal), Diputación de A Coruña (Galicia), Conséil General de la Manche (Normandie) and the Irish Canoeing Union (Ireland).
Surfrider Foundation Europe is organising the 15th edition of the “Ocean Initiatives”, an event open to all (general public, schoolchildren, companies, etc.). It aims at bringing the impact of marine and seashore waste to the attention of our elected representatives, the authorities and the companies.
The United Nations declare 2010 to be the International Year of Biodiversity. 1,000,000 seabirds are killed and 100,000 marine mammals are killed by marine debris every year.
